About Today:: Why Do We Observe Presidents Day? 2/21/11

Today is Presidents Day here in the US. Presidents Day is one of those holidays you might forget about, if you didn't get the day off.

Presidents Day Trivia 
Presidents Day is to honor two presidents in particular: George Washington, who was the first president of the United States, and Abraham Lincoln, who I thought was the second president until I was about eight years old.

The 10 Most Influential Presidents 
Both Washington and Lincoln make this list, but some others might surprise you.

Video: Branches of the Government 
My friend Andre is a naturalized citizen of the United States, which, as he says, "means that I'm required to know more about the government than most people who were born here." (Cue the Sad Trombone of Truth.)

Presidents Day Special: The Invention of Great Writing 
Presidents Day is maybe the most annoyingly punctuated holiday ever. This is especially funny when you consider the fact that Lincoln in particular did so much to inspire better writing.
