About Today: Why Is Black History Month in February? 2/8/11

Do you ever wonder why we celebrate Black History Month in February? I've always wondered, not least because if I were picking months, I might pick something less smack-dab in the middle of winter.

Who Founded Black History Month? 
February should probably be the Official Month of Napping, and not anything more historically and socially significant.

How do you define African-American history? When did it begin, and which eras does it encompass?
